What another fantastic week in Foundation, with the arrival of our newest student Siobhan, who joined us on Friday to begin her journey at Sacred Heart. It was so wonderful to hear Hayley Fernandes from Year 1 introduce herself to Siobhan before school with ' Hi, my name is Hayley. Welcome to Sacred Heart'. They are the moments you remember in teaching. 

A massive shout out to all the families who attended last Thursday night's Art Show, what a magnificent night!

Year 1

Dear Families,

The Art Show was such a wonderful celebration of all the children's creativity and talent. For those who were unable to attend, I have attached photos of our class masterpiece. The children worked incredibly hard on this project throughout last term and even into this term, and they are very proud of what they created.

Year 2

Hello Families, 

The Gruffalos had a busy week with their learning. We checked in on our garden (growing both fruit and vegetables!) as we begin into our Paddock to Plate Inquiry unit.  We shared ways that we can look after each other, like the story of the The Good Shepherd.  We prepared for the Art show. The Art Show was such a sensational success. Thank You to all families that came to see all the art work F-5. Our MAGNIFICENT sailboats were displayed proudly on the steps and received many wonderful positive comments. Also Year 2 had art work representing  Crazy Hair moments, their names and mendallas. We share our Thank You's to Denise our STEAM teacher. A kindly reminder, that Thursdays are our Library days to change story books for the following week.

Year 3/4 AL

Thank you to all of those families that were able to attend the 2026 Sacred Heart Art Show, what a spectacular show it was! Our Year 3/4 students amazing creativity was on display around the school. We have included some photos below in case you missed it!

These are some thoughts about the art show from some of our students in 3/4 AL...

I went to the multipurpose room with my family for the Art Show. The principal Antoinette said thank you to the STEAM teacher Denise for her effort because we couldn't have had the Art Show without her great effort. Then Kate was being our helper for the choir song. I was singing in the choir at the front of the room because at the back of the room, John the PE teacher was selling raffle tickets with the art captains. After we sung in the choir, the principal Antoinette said there was a scavenger hunt every student could do. I did the scavenger hunt with my friends Ezra & Valentino. I saw the 5/6's jean-ious creation, all of them were really cool and one of the 5/6's made a hamburger. My favorite was the whale toy and pillow that Layla made for her cat . By Abigail

At the art show we got to see amazing art work. My favourite art was the jean-ious creations. It was great, all of the artwork was cool. All the amazing art work was standing straight and awesome. And today it is still sitting looking amazing. By Valentino

At school before the art show l was nervous. When l got home l got ready, after l got ready l relaxed and l was not nervous at all when my mum got home.  After we had dinner, we got in the car and drove back to school.  At school, where the art show was, l went in and my mum, my brother and I saw the Sacred Heart greeting and heard the choir. The choir sang 1 million dreams, l loved the song. After my dad came, we looked at some art work and we got some clues. After my friends invited me to a game outside so l joined for a game of tag, more and more people joined then we had to go home. By Vlami

Year 3/4 T

It was wonderful to see so many families join us for the 2026 Sacred Heart Art Show! The school was filled with colour, creativity and fantastic artwork, with our Year 3/4 students proudly showcasing the pieces they have created. For those who weren’t able to make it on the night, we have shared a few photos above so you can enjoy some of the highlights.

Year 5/6J

Hi Families,

This week in 5/6J students selected the reward to be able to visit the Preston Market for lunch. This was aligned with reaching 30 tokens in our token reward jar. Having reached it so early, it shows how well all students have settled into Term 3, and for displaying our chosen classroom value for this term, respect so consistently. 

Each time we reach 30 tokens, there will be a different reward, so I am looking forward to seeing what 5/6J decide next!

This was the major highlight of the week, as you can tell by all the lovely smiling faces!

Year 5/6M

Lawrence: The butterfly challenge as part of Inquiry was really fun. Many people had thought outside the box and it was really fun. My butterfly got eliminated during the fifth round. Where did I hide my butterfly? Well I hid my butterfly on James’ soccer ball picture. The reason why I think I got eliminated was because the shade of blue was too light and the sky on James’ soccer ball picture’s sky was much darker.  

Austin: The people couldn’t see my purple butterfly because it was against a purple background. We call this camouflage. I got to the ninth round but lost. I still had lots of fun and I loved that game. Afterwards, we moved my butterfly to a white wall where we can see it now. 

Callix and Keone: This week we had a fun inquiry session about camouflage and how animals need it to survive. Afterwards we had a really cool activity where we made butterflies and camouflaged them into other surfaces of the classroom. It was so much fun! I made a black butterfly to blend in with the bin and It worked! Kaone cheated though because he actually hid it in inbetween books which wasn’t allowed! Everyone had a really enjoyable time while learning and doing this activity. We really liked the session and hope for more like that to come!

Audrey: This week in Inquiry, we focused on animals that camouflage. The fun activity we did was that we got a printed outline of a butterfly and we camouflaged it somewhere around the room. For example, you would find the perfect place you wanted your butterfly to be, then you would colour it in and then put it in the area you originally thought it should be. Other students had to try and find the butterflies. It was a very fun activity and game to do. We learnt that animals or creatures camouflage to prevent either being eaten or to hunt their prey without being very obvious. Many kids hid their butterflies so well that it was so hard to find! Like someone hid a very good coloured butterfly on a scrap piece of paper in plain sight where no one bothered to look! Another example was someone colouring their butterfly fully black and sticking it on the black bin. It was so unnoticeable. At the start of this activity I thought that it would be easy but it actually turned out to be harder than I expected. And so many kids did such an amazing job of coloring their butterfly and then hiding it. Unfortunately we had to only hide it in plain sight so not in between books or behind stuff.  Even though it was just a game, we all learnt so much. Sadly I didnt get to compete in the game because I didnt finish my butterfly and then it was so hard to find a spot that my butterfly could actually blend in. 

Layla and Arvin: On Thursday, we all gathered in the multipurpose room to have a welcome back smoking ceremony. Marty welcomed Uncle Perry, who is an Aboriginal elder who explained to us about his family and culture. The whole school breathed in the eucalyptus smoke and we heard about Uncle Perry’s story. Uncle Perry’s family was from the beginning of the Yarra River. We walked through the smoke and Uncle Perry told us that it will heal us and we blew the smoke on us and it heals the whole SCHOOL!!!
