The Portals rocked The Corner

The crowd saw Red, Red, Red last Thursday night when PMPS’s parents’ band rocked out at the Grand Final of the Parents Battle of the Bands!

The calibre was high. The best parents’ bands in Victoria came together to battle it out, and it was fierce! Crowd singalongs erupted. Bangers were let loose. High notes were hit. And head-banging surprises were juxtaposed with beautiful rhythmic gymnastics ribbon work.

It was a night to remember. But ultimately, when the competition scores were revealed, the judges announced that our band, The Portals, had been pipped at the post, with just one point separating them from the ultimate winners – Rage Against the Canteen from Richmond Primary School.

We take our hats off to Richmond. Their lead singer had given birth just nine weeks ago, showing true dedication to the arts and proving that the show must go on!

Winners are grinners

The Portals didn't walk away empty handed though. They were awarded crowd favourite, winning the "People's Choice" Best Band of the Night award. 

They also won the prize for "most tickets sold" - showing the passion of our Port Melbourne community! This is where our school is the biggest winner, as the funds raised come back directly to Port Melbourne Primary School. The Portals will present a cheque at assembly next term to be used for our music and performing arts program.

Upcoming gigs

Can't wait to see them again? They're playing at the PMPS Port Fest (previously called the Fete) on Saturday 21 November here at school. It'll be a great chance for the kids (and adults) to see them perform!
