Principal for a Day - Student Reflections

Last week we shared a little about our Principal for a Day experience, where some students had the chance to join our Principal Team and see what goes on behind the scenes in a school day.

From classroom visits and assemblies to yard duty, meetings and even a blocked toilet or two, they certainly got a taste of the variety that comes with the job!

This week, we thought we’d hand it over to our student principals themselves. Here are their reflections on the day, in their own words…

Hazel

Hello, I'm Hazel and I have been chosen to be principal for a day. It was an amazing day. In the morning we dropped off the kids to their school and the think tank kids to the Sebastopol library. Next we had to speak at assembly, then we watched some concert dances. They were amazing and full of creativity. After that we went to the Bunjil award meeting, then we went on yard duty and it was cold and muddy. Then we had lunch in the staff room with a lot of yummy treats. After that we went to all the classrooms and gave out stickers, then we did some signs for the concert. Then we went on yard duty again. Then we needed to solve an investigation but it turned out to be a prank!

Daisy 

Hello I am Daisy and I got chosen for Principal for a day. When I was a principal I enjoyed going in the bus with Mr Conlan to drop Emmaus kids off at school and drop the think tankers off at Sebastopol Library, and eating the yummy snacks in the staffroom. I wanted to do Principal for a day because then I wouldn’t have to do work in class, and I can boss people around. Something I learnt when I was a principal is that sometimes you have to crack cases like when we had to solve a case, “a massive mess in the burrow”. The other thing that was absolutely my favourite was when I got to speak at the assembly.

On the day I enjoyed dropping the Before school Care kids at their schools & talking at assembly. I learnt a valuable lesson on what principals have to go through daily.I mainly wanted to be Student principal for a day, so I could see what it was like to deal with all these situations. My favourite part on the day was when I got to talk in front of the whole school! On the day we dropped some kids off at their schools & Think Tank at the Sebastopol Library. When we got back we talked at assembly & went to the Bunjil award meeting. When that was done we went on yard duty. After that I’m not quite sure what happened because I was at the photography excursion, but when I got back we had to solve a mystery of (who messed up the burrow)?

At the start of the day, all of the principals including me got principal for a day. It was very exciting. First we went on the bus to Emmaus, then we dropped off the think tank kids to the library, then we went to assembly. For morning tea we had our own lunch and some snacks. My favourite part of being a principal was checking the cameras and being on yard duty.

Hi, I'm your former principal, Annabel. On principal for a day I highly enjoyed handing out stickers to children, enjoying the yummy morning tea and most of all the mystery at the end of the day. But when you're a principal you also have RESPONSIBILITIES like yard duty, helping out (including re-doing signs and more!) Although it was work, it was extremely enjoyable and I highly recommend you give it a go next year!

My name is Lucy, I'm from Grade 6 and I was one of the Principals for a Day.  I missed most of the because of a photography excursion, but I still enjoyed what I was there for.  We started off by catching the bus and dropping off the Think Tank kids and Before School Care kids.  When we got back, we were rushed off to assembly to talk and hand out Bunjil awards. I realise just how much our principals do in a day.  I would highly recommend doing it next year - you get free food!
