Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese new year everyone! It's the time to mark the start of the year and chase away all the bad spirits. Chinese New Year is celebrated by Chinese and South-East Asian families throughout the world- including many students and families at Mitcham Primary School. Each Chinese new year has a zodiac animal and this year is the Year of the Horse. The horse symbolizes energy, independence and success.

Families celebrate Chinese New Year by hanging red decorations, cooking and enjoying meals together, and visiting each other. Children are given red envelopes with money which invites good fortune.
