Mr Jon Franzin

Dear Parents, Friends and Students of St Virgil’s,

The beginning of the school year has provided many opportunities for our students to engage, lead, and excel across a wide range of College experiences. From major community events to outstanding achievements on the sporting field, the past fortnight has showcased the breadth of offerings available at the College and the enthusiastic way our young men step into these moments.

House Athletics Carnival

Last Thursday’s House Athletics Carnival was an outstanding celebration of House spirit, teamwork, and healthy competition. Under the leadership of Mr Michael Moschogianis and his team, the day ran seamlessly, thanks to the support of staff across numerous roles. Student participation was exceptional, with young men embracing the chance to represent their House with pride and contribute to an energetic and inclusive atmosphere. The positivity and sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the day are a credit to our students and staff alike.

Beginning of Year Liturgy

Our Beginning of Year Liturgy last Friday brought together our entire Prep–Year 12 community in a meaningful celebration of faith, identity, and achievement. The liturgy honoured our Academic Award recipients and Year 12 students and reflected the respectful and engaged way our young men participate in significant College traditions. We extend our gratitude to those parents in attendance along with the staff choir, Music staff, and all those who assisted behind the scenes to make this occasion memorable.

Middle School Information Evening

The recent Middle Years Information Evening was a wonderful demonstration of our community's strength and connection. Parent engagement was outstanding, with families showing genuine interest in the learning journey ahead for their sons. Following the information sessions, parents, students and staff gathered in the amphitheatre to share pizza, creating a warm, energetic and positive atmosphere. The sense of enthusiasm and togetherness on display was a true reflection of the vibrant Middle Years community at St Virgil’s and I take this opportunity to thank those who attended on the night.

Open Day

More than 40 prospective families visited the Senior School Campus on Tuesday 3 March for our annual Open Day morning. Our Year 9 & 10 Student Leaders were outstanding ambassadors, guiding families through the campus with confidence, warmth, and a genuine affection for the College. Their insightful commentary, personal reflections, and pride in their school created a welcoming and engaging experience for all visitors. The positive feedback received affirms not only the strength of our community and the quality of programs on offer, but also the impressive way our young men represented St Virgil’s with authenticity and enthusiasm.

All Schools Rowing Championships

Our rowing program continued its tradition of excellence at the All Schools Rowing Championships at Lake Barrington last weekend. Under the guidance of Oliver Wilson-Haffenden, our crews delivered exceptional results, securing both the Overall Aggregate Shield and the Junior Aggregate Shield, alongside several impressive individual performances. These achievements reflect the dedication of our students and coaches, and we now look forward with excitement to the upcoming Head of the River on Saturday 14 March.

Best wishes for the week ahead and safe travels to those heading away this long weekend.
