Bringing democracy to life in the 3/4 classrooms!

This week students participated in a hands-on, engaging primary school incursion that gives students a front-row seat to how rules, laws, and local government shape our communities. Students explored the fundamentals of Australian democracy, defining key terms, distinguishing between rules and laws, and learning the roles and responsibilities of the three levels of government. Students stand for election to our mock classroom council, discovering how preferential voting and redistribution and absolute majorities work.Students then stepped into the shoes of Councillors and residents in a lively council meeting role-play, complete with costumes and props! Debating real issues, contributing to discussions, and making key decisions, students were able to see how local laws are created and applied.
