Principals' Message

Mrs Michelle Rassias and Mr Beau Robertson

Wow.... What a fortnight! It has been a vibrant and busy few weeks at Donvale Primary School, with something happening for everyone in our community. From NAPLAN for our Year 3 and Year 5 students, our first Step Into Prep session, and hosting Decodable Readers Australia professional learning, to Silly Sock Day, school photos and our wonderful Multicultural Day.  It has certainly been an exciting and engaging time across the school.

NAPLAN

We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 3 and Year 5 students approached NAPLAN this year. They demonstrated resilience, focus and a positive mindset throughout the testing period. While there were some nerves and even a nationwide technical disruption, our students showed great adaptability and maturity, settling quickly and doing their very best.

NAPLAN is just one snapshot of student learning, assessing skills in literacy and numeracy including reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. It provides valuable information for both schools and families about how students are progressing over time and helps guide future teaching and learning.

At Donvale, we place strong emphasis on growth, effort and wellbeing. We are proud of how our students approached the experience with confidence and perseverance, and we thank our staff for their careful preparation and support in ensuring a calm and supportive environment throughout the testing period.

Strike Action

The Australian Education Union has called on its members to take strike action on Tuesday 24 March 2026. Based on the information available to us at this stage, 8 out of 13 classroom teachers will be participating in this strike action.

Further information regarding arrangements for the day will be cimmunicated via Compass.

Students who will be absent on this day will have a 901 code allocated to their absence, which will not affect their attendance record.

Parking and Unsafe Driver Behaviour

We have received several reports regarding unsafe parking and driving behaviours around our school. The safety of our students and families is our highest priority, and we ask all members of our community to be mindful of road rules when dropping off or collecting children.

Please remember:

  • Do not park where there is a solid white line
  • Avoid illegal U-turns, particularly around the intersection of Elata Street, Cerberus Street and the school driveway
  • Follow all signage and be respectful of our neighbours

Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe.

Decodable Readers Australia Teacher Professional Development

We were delighted to host teachers from a number of schools to showcase our work with the Decodable Readers Australia program. Over the past few years, this evidence-based approach has become an important part of our early reading instruction at Donvale.
