The Bible is a Present From God
Over the past few weeks in Worship, students have been exploring different ways to understand the Bible. This week, we looked at the theme: The Bible is a present from God.
To help us think about gifts, we looked at a story, where a determined Duck tries to find the perfect gift for his friend. He knits socks that don’t quite work, buys a giant ice‑cream that melts, writes a birthday song that doesn’t go to plan, invents an apple‑juice‑powered jet pack and even buys a spaceship, only to give it away to a Martian who needs a lift.
After all his efforts, Duck finally realises the perfect gift is something thoughtful, meaningful, and lasting. So, he creates a book - a story filled with memories, adventures, and things his friend loves. A gift to treasure forever.
This reminds us of another book created with love and purpose - the Bible.
Just like Duck wanted to give the perfect present, God wanted to give us something wonderful too. The Bible is not just any book; it is the book. A present filled with stories, people and promises. It helps us remember all the special things God has done and all the important things God wants us to know.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17 (NIV)
The Bible is that good and perfect gift - something that doesn’t break, melt, or get lost. Something that lasts forever.
This week, our Foundation students received their very own Bibles. A gift from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and even more importantly, a gift from God. We hope these Bibles become treasured books in their homes - read often, shared with family, and kept for years to come.
Whenever you open a Bible - whether it’s new or old, at school or at home - remember this: The Bible is a present from God. Something amazing, something unexpected, something just for you.
