Assistant Principal's News

Josie Burt

We have had some wonderful activities and experiences over the last three weeks. As I visit classes, the learning and fantastic work on display is so great to see.

Junior School Library Opening

Students have seen our Junior school library officially open. Clare, our wonderful Librarian/Ed-Connect volunteer, will be in the Library on Wednesdays to support the borrowing of books.

Science Week

All students were invited to participate in Science activities linked to their Inquiry focus with our volunteer Pavani. Each group of students participated in experiments and experiences in the Science room.

Book Week

Last week we celebrated Book Week with a wonderful whole school assembly.

Thank you to all families who turned up their creativity to help their children create some of the best costumes I have seen in all my Book Parade years.

Book Club

Issue 6 has been shared with families. If you would like to purchase from this issue - the last date to place an order will be the 12th of September.

Wonderful Learning Experiences

Teachers have been busy planning and preparing for excursions and incursions to support student learning in a range of subject areas. Our year 5/6 Girls participated in the Confident Girls Netball Gala day this week. When asked if they had fun - it was a resounding YES!

Our year 1/2 cohort are heading to the Melbourne Museum on Friday to experience the Insect and Bugs exhibit which ties perfectly to their current unit of Inquiry.

Our State School Spectacular Victoria student group are in their final stages of rehearsal -the big day of concert is on the 13th of September at John Cain arena.

ICAS Assessments

Congratulations to all students who completed their ICAS assessments. For some of you this was the first time using a testing format similar to NAPLAN. I am proud of the efforts everyone gave to each test, and the resilience you showed when we encountered technological difficulties.

We have received results for the Digital Technologies and English. As soon as the certificates are sent to the school we will present them at assembly. For these first two assessments our students received:

2 Merits

2 Credits

1 Distinction

Mathletics and Reading Eggs

We have seen some wonderful work happening at home and school using the Mathletics and Reading eggs subscriptions. Class teachers have noted that children who are scheduling regular practice of Maths, Reading, and Phonics, are making great improvements in those subject areas in class.

In the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, the elements of learning - Retention and Recall, and Mastery and Application recognise the need for students to repeat a skill many times in order to move it to a long term memory skill that can be accessed when needed throughout their learning journey.

If you have not been using these subscriptions at home, I strongly encourage even 20 minutes, two/three times per week, to make this part of an 'at home learning' habit.
