"How does Lent transform our lives?"

In this unit students explored Lent as a season of the Church's liturgical year. Through exploring appropriate scripture texts, they came to see that the mystery of the life and death of Jesus has meaning for our lives and all of creation. Students were also asked to analyse and explain the significance of the colours, readings and rituals of Lent and its connection to our lives today. Life experiences can be transforming when seen as a pattern of darkness and light, growth and change. Lent is the period before Easter where Jesus reflected on his own  experience and grew to understand his mission to save us all.

"What brings you joy?"

In our unit of Lent and Easter the junior students have learnt about the journey Jesus went on over the 40 days in the lead up to his death. Students meditated to the story about Jesus entering into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) and the people calling out hosanna. They learnt that the term hosanna is very important as it means joy and praise for Jesus. Students decorated the word 'joy' and wrote a sentence describing what brings them joy.
