Positive Behaviour for Learning

This week we have been practising consistent morning routines is a key Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) strategy. Establishing predictable routines helps students feel safe, connected and ready to learn while promoting self-regulation, engagement and a positive classroom culture.
Morning Routine Expectations (PBL)
Every morning, students will:
- Begin with Prayer
- Gather respectfully as a class.
- Participate in morning prayer, taking time to reflect and prepare for the day.
- Morning Circle
- Welcome each other and build a sense of belonging.
- Share news, celebrations or something they are looking forward to.
- Listen respectfully while others are speaking.
- Wellbeing Check-In
- Identify and share how they are feeling using a feelings chart or wellbeing scale.
- Recognise emotions and discuss strategies to support emotional regulation if needed.
- Teachers use this time to identify students who may require additional support.
- Review the Visual Timetable
- Go through the day's learning and activities using the visual timetable.
- Highlight any changes to the routine.
- Prepare students for transitions throughout the day.
- Learning Intentions and Behaviour Expectations
- Review the learning focus for the day.
Revisit the PBL expectations:
Be Respectful-Be Responsible-Be Resilient
- Discuss what these expectations will look and sound like during the day's learning.
Why Morning Routines Matter
Consistent morning routines:
- Create a calm and predictable start to the day.
- Foster positive relationships and a sense of belonging.
- Support student wellbeing through regular emotional check-ins.
- Reduce anxiety by providing clear expectations and structure.
- Maximise learning time by ensuring students are organised and ready to engage.
- Reinforce Positive Behaviour for Learning expectations through daily practice.
By intentionally practising these routines each morning, teachers establish a positive classroom environment where every student feels welcomed, valued and ready to succeed.
