Foundation L Term 3: Here We GROW Again! 🌱

This week, we began Term 3 by writing a recount about our school holiday experiences. To help organise our ideas, students first drew pictures of their favourite holiday memories before planning their writing. We followed the gradual release model, with teacher modelling about how to write recount sentences (I do), then working together to create sentence starters as a class (We do). Students then independently completed their own recounts by adding details about their holiday experiences (You do). It was wonderful to see everyone sharing their memories and building confidence as writers! I was so proud of their independence and perseverance during this task! This week, Foundation students have started learning about simple addition by combining small groups of objects and counting to find the total. We use hands-on materials, pictures, and number lines to help them understand how addition works. Through games and everyday activities, students build confidence and develop their early number skills.

Throughout our knowledge rich unit on The Gruffalo, students explored the key elements of a story, including the characters, setting, problem, and resolution. We also focused on punctuation marks and identified rhyming words throughout the book. As a class, we read the story together and found examples of rhyming words. Students then completed a matching activity where they paired different rhyming words from the story, helping to strengthen their understanding of rhyme and build their early literacy skills.
