Music Update
Dear Music Students, Parents and Carers,
Welcome to 2026!
Lessons for the majority of students have started back again in week 2 so hopefully you are all starting to hear a bit of practice going on at home. This year ensembles will be running slightly differently than in the past few years, and we will be trialing small ensembles for Semester 1, returning to large ensembles for Semester 2. For parents of new year 7 students who join our program, details for their rehearsal times will be sent out at a later date, so please disregard the times below for now.
The reasoning for this is to provide students with a unique experience playing in a group comprising of just their instrument, also enabling a greater opportunity for instrumental staff to provide further specialised instruction.
Rehearsal times for this year are:
Rehearsal times for Semester 1
Clarinet Ensemble: Monday 3 - 4:15pm
Saxophone Ensemble: Tuesday 3 -4:15pm
Brass Ensemble: Monday 3pm - 4:15pm
Flute Ensemble: Thursday Recess
Senior Vocal Ensemble: Tuesday 3 - 4:15
Vocal Ensemble: Thursday lunch time
Guitar Ensemble: Tuesday lunch time
Rock Band: Thursday lunch time
Drum line: Friday lunch time
Percussion Ensemble: Tuesday 3 - 4:15
|
Rehearsal times for Semester 2
Senior Band: Monday 3 - 4.30pm
Intermediate Band: Tuesday 3 - 4.15pm
Junior Band: Wednesday 3 - 4pm
Guitar Ensemble: Thursday lunchtime
Vocal Ensemble: Tuesday 3pm - 4:15pm
Percussion Ensemble: Time TBC

Rehearsal times have been organised to balance staff workloads and availability of a suitable rehearsal space on certain days. Compass will start showing rehearsal times as staff enrol students into these groups, but ensembles rehearsals will all start next week. (9 Feb).
Some students will have their after-school rehearsal times change in Semester 2, and as a parent of two very busy kids myself, I understand the organisational challenge this may cause some families. Please get in touch if you have any concerns!
Being part of an ensemble/band is one of the more rewarding aspects of learning an instrument and is also a compulsory part of our program here at EMC. If the rehearsal times don’t align with your schedule, please email me at: dominic.parsons@education.vic.gov.au
Kind Regards,
Dominic Parsons
Instrumental Music Co-ordinator.
