Wellbeing Morning Tea
Thank you to the parents and carers who joined us for our Wellbeing Morning Tea this week. It was wonderful to see families engaging in conversations about how we can work together to support our children's social and emotional development.
Our session explored the idea that behaviour is learned and, just like academic skills, expected behaviours need to be explicitly taught, practised and encouraged. We discussed how children are more likely to succeed when the important adults in their lives use consistent language, expectations and strategies.
A simple approach we shared was:
- Teach – Explain and model the behaviour you would like to see.
- Apply – Give children opportunities to rehearse the skill.
- Point out – Look for the behaviour when it happens.
Encourage – Acknowledge the behaviour with specific, positive feedback.
These small, everyday interactions help children develop confidence, independence and self-regulation over time.
Whether at home or at school, our goal is the same: to help children understand what is expected and to equip them with the skills they need to be successful learners, friends and members of our community.
We also asked what topics you would like to see for future Wellbeing Morning Teas or Wellbeing Newsletters. If you would like to contribute your ideas you can do so here: https://forms.gle/6BUnayAxfpFuTE6XA
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. We look forward to welcoming families to future Wellbeing Morning Teas throughout the year.
