Senior Footy Trip

During the school holidays, a group of Year 10–12 boys had the wonderful opportunity to embark on our first-ever MacKillop Footy Trip.
On Thursday morning, they travelled to Werribee to take on MacKillop College Werribee. It was a fiercely contested match, with a strong sense of MacKillop‑versus‑MacKillop rivalry emerging. At half-time, MKC held a 15‑point lead with the score at 41–26. The team opened the second half with great intensity and gradually pulled away, securing a convincing 49‑point victory, 86–27. MacKillop Werribee were outstanding hosts, and we are extremely grateful for their hospitality and for organising the match.
On Thursday evening, the group headed to the MCG to watch a primetime blockbuster between Hawthorn and Collingwood, joining 76,000 other fans. The team was treated to an incredible atmosphere, a high‑quality contest, and a dramatic finish, with the game ending in a draw after a goal was scored after the siren.
On Friday morning, the group travelled to Dingley for a tour of the Hawthorn Football Club’s brand‑new high‑performance centre and facilities. The team was able to explore a wide range of areas, including coaches’ offices, gyms, pools, meeting rooms, and massage rooms. They also had the chance to enjoy a kick in the club’s new indoor kicking facility, which was a fantastic experience.
They were then joined by Steve, one of Hawthorn’s blind AFL representatives, who led the boys through a blind AFL session on one of their brand new training oval's. This involved using a specially designed football featuring a bright fluorescent green colour and an internal buzzer, as well as wearing vision‑impairment goggles to simulate playing with limited sight. This session provided the boys with a unique and meaningful insight into inclusive sport and was a highlight of the trip.
A big thank you to the staff who supported this trip. We look forward to this Senior Football Trip becoming a longstanding tradition for our Senior Students for years to come.
