Dear Community Members,
Our MacKillop Catholic College community was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Principal, Dr Sally Towns, following her courageous battle with cancer.
Sally’s connection to MacKillop was both significant and enduring. She joined the College in 2008 as Deputy Principal and was appointed Principal in 2009, leading our community with vision and dedication until 2015. During her time here, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, including her work on the Edmund Building redevelopment, which continues to serve our students today.
A passionate educator, Sally completed her doctorate in Transition Education while serving as Principal and was later a driving force behind the “One in Heart and Mind” Catholic Education Tasmania Strategic Directions. She went on to serve the broader Church with distinction as Executive Director of Brisbane Catholic Education.
Sally will be remembered for her deep faith, her commitment to excellence, and the care she showed to all members of the community. Her legacy remains an important part of the story of MacKillop Catholic College.
As we reflect on Sally’s leadership, we can see her influence echoed in the everyday life of our College. The stories and achievements in this newsletter are a testament to the enduring strength of the community she helped to shape.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Sally’s family and loved ones, and we give thanks for her leadership and the lasting impact she has had on our MacKillop community.
May she rest in peace.
