Year 4 Inquiry

This term, Year 4 students have been exploring the fascinating world of islands through our Inquiry unit. Throughout the term, students investigated what makes an island unique, learning about where islands are located around the world and how to identify them on maps.

Students explored climate zones and biomes, examining how different environments influence the plants and animals that live there. They also learned about food chains and how living things depend on one another to survive within different ecosystems. In addition, students investigated national symbols, including flags and anthems, and considered how these help represent a country's identity.

To showcase their learning, students worked collaboratively in groups to design and create their own island nation. Each group made decisions about their island's climate zone, biome, native plants and animals, food chain, name, flag and national anthem. Students then brought their ideas to life using a variety of materials sourced from both home and school.

The creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills demonstrated throughout this project have been outstanding. Students have enjoyed applying their knowledge in a hands-on way and have taken great pride in designing islands that are both imaginative and scientifically informed.
