Principal's Views

This is our final newsletter for Term 2, and what a busy and exciting term it has been! Our students have enjoyed a wide range of learning opportunities, special events and celebrations, making it a memorable term for all.

A highlight of this final week has undoubtedly been our Semester 1 Performing Arts Concerts. The performances showcased the incredible talents, confidence and enthusiasm of our students. Each class performed with energy and pride, demonstrating teamwork, creativity and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones. It is clear that we have some budding performers within the EVPS community – perhaps even a future Australian Idol! A special congratulations and heartfelt thank you to Sun, who singlehandedly rehearsed, planned, prepared and delivered these wonderful concerts. Her dedication and commitment ensured a fantastic experience for both students and families.

Thank you also to our families for supporting the concerts by providing costumes, helping students rehearse at home and cheering them on during their performances. Your support helps make these events so successful.

This week we also welcomed families into the school for our Student Led Conferences. These conferences provide students with an opportunity to share their learning, celebrate their achievements and reflect on their goals. Thank you to our families for attending and engaging in these important conversations about learning.

Students also enjoyed participating in our FIFA World Cup activities, which brought plenty of excitement, teamwork and friendly competition to the school.

At our final assembly for the term, we celebrated student achievement through the presentation of our Principal’s Awards, Attendance Awards and Semester 1 Values and Specialist Awards. Congratulations to all students who received recognition for their efforts, achievements and positive contribution to our school community.

Term 2 Wrap Up

Throughout Term 2 there has been strong participation in a wide range of academic, wellbeing, cultural and extracurricular opportunities. Highlights included the successful Year 5/6 Phillip Island Camp, Education Week celebrations, Book Fair, Prep Breakfast, swimming lessons, interschool sport, and student leadership initiatives such as PJ Day.

The school welcomed Department of Education representatives to observe the implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model and we also shared our successful Phonics Plus journey at the State Principal’s Conference.

Student wellbeing remained a priority through initiatives such as Glasses for Kids, Teeth on Wheels, the Attitudes to School Survey, and ongoing partnerships supporting inclusion and student engagement.

The school community participated in significant events that promoted respect, inclusion and community connection, including ANZAC Day commemorations, National Ride / Walk Safely to School Day, National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, Wear It Yellow Day and Refugee Week. Student achievements in sport, the arts and community participation were celebrated throughout the term.

Staffing

We congratulate Angela Conversano on being provisionally appointed to the Assistant Principal role at The Lakes South Morang P-12 College. This role presents an opportunity for Angela to expand her leadership and lead the College to support diverse learners and build their disability inclusion practices at both the Primary and Secondary school campuses. We wish her luck in her position and thank Angela for her commitment to EVPS as a specialist teacher, leader and assistant principal. This is a very quick turnaround …  Angela will start at the Lakes for the start of Term 3. Congratulations Angela - you will be missed!

I am pleased to share that after a recent employment process - I have been appointed to continue as Acting Principal until 11th April, 2027. I look forward to leading EVPS into the final year of our strategic plan.

Facilities upgrades

As you are aware from recent communications, the existing sandpit is now enclosed within the Austin School area. The replacement sandpit will be installed next to the nature play  in the coming weeks including into week one of next term. There will be temporary fencing around the nature play and new sandpit area.

Over the holidays holidays works will begin on the Blue and Purple toilets - these are being fully refurbished.  The project will take 3 weeks to complete so they will  be closed for the first week of school. During this first week of school - all grade 5/6 students will use the Orange toilets and all P-4 students will use the Red toilets.
