Unveiling Student Ingenuity: Project Highlights

7 Timber Technology Classic Tic Tac Toe

This is a simple strategy game that can be easily made with wood. Students created a square grid on a piece of wood and nine smaller wooden blocks to use as playing pieces. Year 7 students get hands-on with woodworking! This project teaches them essential woodworking skills like sawing, sanding, and assembling, all while designing and creating their own fun and functional wooden games. Year 9 Timber Technology

Has transformed their design concepts into reality! From raw timber boards to bird houses, their projects highlighted their ability to apply design principles and utilising various woodwork techniques.

Faculty Spotlight: Unveiling the Machines

CNC Router

The future of manufacturing is on display at Evans High School on the purchase of our CNC Router. Students will gain expertise in operating our newly bought Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine, creating precise and intricate parts using cutting-edge technology. Here are some of the key features of a CNC router: Precise and repeatable cuts. Versatility: CNC routers can be used to create a wide variety of shapes and designs. They can also be used to cut a variety of materials, making them a very versatile tool. Accuracy: CNC routers can create very accurate cuts, even on complex designs.

We will be using our CNC router for a variety of applications, including:

Prototyping, Signage, Woodworking and Metalworking.

3D Printer

Beyond textbooks, TAS faculty at Evans High School boasts of a range of advanced machines that empower student learning. 3D printers are valuable for a variety of applications in our school. For prototyping: Students can design and create 3D models of their ideas, which can help them to visualise their designs and identify any potential problems. In STEM Education: 3D printing is used to teach students about engineering, design, and manufacturing. Through this, students learn about 3D printing processes, how to design 3D models, and how to use 3D printing to create real-world objects.

In Project-Based Learning: 3D printing is integrated into project-based learning activities to allow students to design and create solutions to real-world problems.

In Art and Design: 3D printers are used to create unique and creative art pieces. Students can design their own models or use online repositories to find models to print.

Sublimation Printer & Vinyl Cutter

Sublimation and Vinyl printers use heat to transfer ink onto a substrate, such as a t-shirt, mug, or phone case. The ink vaporizes and becomes part of the material, creating a permanent and durable image. These printers typically require specially coated materials to work effectively. We use them to create personalised t-shirts, mugs, and other items for school events.

Other Machines are: Vacuum Former, Laser Cutter and Virtual Reality headsets (VR)

Vacuum Former

Vacuum forming is a versatile process that can be used to create a wide variety of products, including:

Prototypes: Because vacuum forming is a relatively inexpensive process, it can be used to create quick and easy prototypes of new product designs.

Packaging: Blister packs and clamshell packages are created using vacuum forming.

Signage: Vacuum forming can be used to create signs with raised lettering or logos.

Medical Devices: Some medical devices, such as trays and splints, can be formed using vacuum forming.

Laser Cutter

Laser Cutters: Precise and powerful, laser cutters enable students to create intricate designs on various materials, expanding their understanding of design possibilities.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality in the classroom opens up new avenues for educational enrichment making learning an engaging and immersive experience. With the VR headsets, we can do the following: virtual field trips, Historical Re-enactments, Science Simulations, Language Learning, Art and Design, Engineering & Mathematics, Special Education, Career and Technical Education, Physical Education and health, environmental Education and many more.
