STEM Education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry and critical thinking.

F1 Grand Prix

On 5 March, fifteen Year 10 students had the opportunity to attend the Formula 1 STEM Learner Driver Program, delivered by Engineers Australia.  This included entry to the Melbourne Formula 1 at Albert Park and the opportunity to explore the Innovation Hub presented by Engineers Australia.

The innovation hub gave our students a look into the latest technology and an opportunity to participate in hands-on activities.  There were several Universities showcasing their STEM programs and courses, with robotics being the highlight.

Our Year 10 students attended the day already possessing a wealth of knowledge about F1 motor sport and the women that work in motor racing.  Such as Hannah Schmitz who is a Strategy Engineer for Red Bull Racing and Susie Wolff, Managing Director of F1 Academy.  The students discussed the inequity in exposure and money for women drivers of F1 cars.  It is exciting to listen to young women talk about careers in STEM and being exposed to the opportunities and pathways that are available in a range of industries and research.
