Our Year 7 students recently put their learning about science safety and laboratory equipment into practice during an exciting practical experiment. The challenge was to investigate how water behaves when heated in three different pieces of lab equipment: a test tube, a beaker and an evaporation dish.
Before beginning, the girls developed and shared their own hypotheses about what they thought would happen. Many predicted that the water might heat or boil at different rates depending on the shape and size of the container, and they supported their ideas with thoughtful scientific reasoning.

Throughout the experiment, it was wonderful to see the students working carefully and confidently in the laboratory. They followed the safety procedures they had been learning about, wearing their lab coats and safety glasses and handling the equipment responsibly.
The lesson was a great example of students applying their knowledge, thinking like scientists and testing their ideas through observation and experimentation. It was fantastic to see their curiosity, teamwork and enthusiasm for learning on display.

The Big Sister/Little Sister Picnic and Easter Egg Hunt was a wonderful celebration of community, connection and fun. Students eagerly teamed up to search for hidden Easter eggs, working together and supporting one another as they explored the grounds. The excitement and laughter shared throughout the hunt highlighted the strong bonds being formed between our younger and older students.

Following the hunt, the girls enjoyed a relaxed picnic where they had the opportunity to catch up, share food and snacks and spend quality time together. Many gathered in small groups playing card games such as Uno, while others simply enjoyed chatting and getting to know one another better. It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen relationships and foster a sense of belonging across year levels, making it a truly memorable experience for all involved.

In this week’s Extended Mentor Group, our Year 8s took a break from the books to get hands-on with a new creative project: Belonging Bracelets. The goal was simple but effective: girls paired up with a close friend and then joined another pair they didn’t know very well. Armed with bags of beads and string, they went to work creating something that represents both our Year 8 cohort and their own unique personalities.
I call these "Belonging Bracelets" because they act as a common thread across the year level, yet no two are exactly alike. It was fantastic to see the girls’ creativity shine. They chose colours that suited their style and added charms that really meant something to them - whether it was an Eiffel Tower for a love of travel, a heart, or a cross to reflect their religious identity.
The best part of the session wasn't just the jewellery making; it was the "chatter." While they threaded beads, the students were tasked with sharing stories and teaching their new group members something unknown about themselves.

To wrap up, the whole homeroom came together to share a new fact they’d learned about a peer. We heard everything from hidden talents to favourite family traditions! The girls clearly loved the activity and walked away with some pretty impressive wristwear. More importantly, we are hoping those conversations were the start of some brand-new friendships across the year level.

Year 8 students have concluded their unit on Baptism by participating in a mock baptism held in the College chapel. This experience was approached with great respect and reverence for the sacrament, allowing students to bring their theoretical knowledge into a practical context. Through this immersive activity, students developed a deeper appreciation of the symbols, rituals and significance of Baptism within the Catholic tradition.

We thank Ms Jansen for facilitating all three of the classes baptisms.
