Primary Art

During Term One Primary students have been focussing on the Elements of Art and integrating these into their artwork while learning new skills.
Foundation
Foundation students have been introduced to the art elements of Line, Shape, Colour and the design principle of Pattern. They have been using crayon, watercolour and acrylic paint, stamps, rollers and brushes to explore these. After reading the book ‘The Colour Monster’, the students used their understanding of Line, Shape and the colour wheel to create these Colour Monsters which are now displayed in the PLC.
Year 1/2 students have been consolidating their understanding of the art elements Line, Shape, Colour and the design principle of Pattern. They have explored these concepts through the use of paint pens, acrylic paint and water colour paint. They have used organic shapes and lines in their artwork and explored complimentary, warm and cool colours.
The students created colourful line and colour paintings which are presently displayed in the PLC. The students are currently working on watercolour paintings that include organic lines, shapes and patterns and are really enjoying creating them. They are following in the footsteps of the artist Paul Klee and are ‘taking a line for a walk’.
Year 3/4
Students in Middle Primary have also been focussing on Line, Colour, Shape and Pattern and learning how to incorporate these into their artwork. The students have been working on their drawing skills by doing some directed drawing of ocean creatures. The students have been learning about plastic in the ocean in their English classes and I have carried this over to Art.
The students have used their directed drawing skills and understanding of colour to create an artwork that sends a strong message to keep our oceans clean. These will be displayed in their classrooms.
Year 5
Students have continued to consolidate their understanding of all seven elements of art and have been focussing on the elements of Shape and Tone by learning how to illustrate and shade. Students have learnt to illustrate by drawing the main shapes they see then filling in the details.
Year fives have combined their understanding of the elements and illustration and have drawn a still life picture of a vase and flowers and have had to show contrast by using warm and cool colours, pattern, and black and white. These drawings will be displayed once finished.
Year 6
These students have also continued to consolidate their understanding of all seven elements of art and have been focussing on the elements of Shape and Tone by learning how to illustrate and shade. The Year six students are learning how to illustrate using shape as well as grids and lines in order to correctly draw an object.
They are learning how to use the element of Tone to shade and create light and dark aspects of their drawings, looking at where the light touches and is absent. These drawings will be displayed once finished.
