Year 7 Camp

Year 7 Camp - The best adventure!

From 24 to 26 Feb, the Year 7s headed to Golden Valleys Adventure Camp on the Mornington Peninsula for Year 7 Camp. This was the first time we visited Golden Valleys, and it was a wonderful experience. This year we focused on building connections, teamwork, perseverance and trust.

Chelsey Li, Year 7

From the moment we arrived at camp, the excitement began! We were split into groups and jumped straight into our first activity—hut building!

Using branches and materials provided by the Camp Directors, we worked together to built a sturdy shelter. As we were building, we even came up with a funny story about working like the dwarves from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Seeing our hut come to life was amazing!

Next up was milk crate stacking. We teamed up and started to climb up the milk crates. The trickiest part? Staying super still when the wind blew! After a big day of adventure, we sat down for a delicious spaghetti dinner, played a fun game, and then headed to bed, excited for the next day's challenges.

The next morning, we tackled the giant swing—one of the most thrilling activities at camp! Just as we reached the top, our camp leader asked us a question. But before we could even finish answering, he let go of the rope, sending us flying through the air! Our words instantly turned into screams!

After morning tea (fruit and a yummy cookie!), we took on the vertical challenge, climbing a tricky obstacle wall. Next, we tested ouraim in an archery session.

Then we enjoyed a lunch of cheeseburgers, before moving onto our next activity — making damper and billy tea. We cooked dough at the end of a stick over a fire. Once it was ready, we put either honey or ham into it, and enjoyed tea on the side. It was delicious!

On our final day, we had another action-packed schedule! We tackled an exciting obstacle course, enjoyed a sausage sizzle for lunch, and wrapped up our day with a game of beach volleyball.

Overall, my personal favourite activity of Camp was the damper and billy tea. Year 7 Camp was a really fun experience!

Gemma Hartman and Jennie Ren, Year 7

Year 7 Camp was absolutely amazing! It was a great opportunity to meet new people. While we had friends in our cabins, the activity groups were made up of different people, and it was exciting getting to know others better. Everyone felt included and part of something special.

By the end of the camp, we had more than just a handful of friends! The entire experience was an unforgettable adventure and a fantastic way to connect with others in Year 7. If we had the chance, we’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!
