Year 9s connect with Year 4s on sustainability
Mark Williams, Humanities Teacher
Recently, the Year 9 Global Studies classes had the opportunity to visit the Year 4 classrooms to share their sustainability storybooks.
As part of their studies, the Year 9s researched a designated United Nations Sustainable Development Goal and then authored a storybook designed to educate and inspire Year 4 students.
They were delighted to see the enthusiasm of the Year 4 students and were pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the experience of sharing their work.
This meaningful exchange not only reinforced the importance of sustainability but also fostered connections between Junior and Senior School students.
Harmony Day
Jacqui Goldenberg, Community Service Program Director
On 18 March, Kilvington came alive with a vibrant display of orange and cultural dress as we celebrated Harmony Day. Harmony Week is a time to embrace and honour the diversity that makes up our community, bringing together Australians from all backgrounds. Itβs a celebration of inclusiveness, respect and belonging β values we proudly uphold at Kilvington.
ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE
From the ELC to Year 12, our community came together for our annual food drive in support of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC). Thanks to the generosity of students and families, we collected an incredible 80 bags filled with essential groceries, providing much-needed support to those facing hardship.
CUT FOR A CAUSE
The sun shone for our annual Senior School Cut for a Cause. This year, 15 students took the brave step of cutting their hair for charity. Fourteen students raised an impressive $7,000 for the ASRC, while one student raised over $2,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation, a cause close to their family's heart.
A huge thank you to David from Emphasis Hair, who has generously donated his time and skills for this event since 2011! The atmosphere was electric, with a number of students providing fantastic live performances and the Year 9 students hosting the largest bake sale Kilvington has ever seen.
Our strong connection with the ASRC continues beyond fundraising. As part of their Impact Program, Year 9 students are currently visiting the ASRC, touring the facility and hearing firsthand from a speaker with lived experience.
Together, these initiatives reflect the heart of our Kilvington community β one that is compassionate, engaged and committed to making a difference.
