An aboriginal perspective – Aunty Karan visits the ELC
This term, we were delighted to welcome back Karan Kent, our Indigenous educator, who regularly visits the ELC to share her deep knowledge and culture with the children.
Each term, Aunty Karan engages with all groups, enriching their learning through stories, Aboriginal artefacts, instruments and her strong connection to Country.
In line with the Early Years Learning Framework, our curriculum is designed to foster cultural competence. A crucial part of this in Australia is recognising and responding to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities.
At Kilvington ELC, our teachers thoughtfully incorporate Indigenous perspectives into daily learning experiences. One meaningful tradition is our own Acknowledgement of Country, created by ELC children some years ago, which continues to be an integral part of our routines.
The children have whole-heartedly embraced this learning with enthusiasm and curiosity, and will continue to respect and reflect on their understanding of Aboriginal people and their culture.
