Japan Day

On Wednesday 10 June 2026, Carnegie PS will celebrate a whole-school Japan Day filled with colour, music, creativity and cultural experiences.
Inspired by Kodomo no Hi (Children’s Day) in Japan, the day will provide students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Japanese language and culture through a range of engaging, hands-on activities.
Students are invited to dress in a Japanese-themed costume suitable for school and will begin the day with a whole-school Opening Ceremony Assembly. Throughout the day, students will participate in a variety of exciting cultural experiences, including a performance by the renowned Wadaiko Rindo Japanese taiko drummers. Students will also create their own koinobori (carp streamers) and samurai origami helmets.
Each year level will explore a different aspect of Japanese culture, including Shodo (Japanese calligraphy), traditional games, as well as sport and movement activities. Students will also have the option to order a sushi lunch from Sushi@School, with ordering information available on Compass.
We look forward to a wonderful celebration of Japanese culture, creativity and community. Parents and families are warmly invited to attend our special Japan Day Opening Ceremony Assembly from 9:10am to 10:30am.
