STUDENT NEWS

At the BMX National Series competition last weekend, Joseph from 2D, qualified to represent Australia at the UCI BMX World Championships, which will be held in Brisbane this July.

Joseph only started in the sport six months ago, so achieving this result is really remarkable, especially as many of his competitors have been racing since they were four or five years old. Congratulations, Joseph!

LOST PROPERTY REMINDER

Our lost property tub is currently overflowing with unnamed and illegibly named items. To help us return belongings to their owners, please ensure all clothing, lunch boxes, drink bottles and other personal items are clearly labelled with your child’s first and last name. We often have several students with the same first name, making it difficult to identify ownership from a first name alone.

We have also noticed that many names on items have faded or washed away over time, so we encourage families to regularly check that labels remain clear and readable. Some items are also labelled with names of former students, possibly from second-hand uniform purchases or hand-me-downs, which makes returning items very challenging.

FIDGETS IN THE CLASSROOM

Fidgets (such as stress balls, fidget spinners, and pop-its) are small tools that provide sensory input and can support some students with attention, focus, and self-regulation. For many neurodivergent students, they can be a helpful way to manage the demands of classroom learning and the school environment.

Fidgets are most effective when used with clear purpose and expectations. Without guidance, they can become distracting rather than supportive.

At school, students are encouraged to use fidgets in a thoughtful and responsible way:

  • Consider whether a fidget is needed
  • Use fidgets to support focus or regulation, rather than as a toy
  • Ensure their use does not distract others or interrupt learning
  • Return fidgets after use

If you feel your child may benefit from using a fidget in the classroom, please contact their teacher to discuss appropriate supports.
