Upper Secondary (Years 9-10)
The Year 9/10 students have made a positive start to Term 3 and have settled back into school routines well. They have worked hard to get back into the flow of following our school expectations, demonstrating positive attitudes, teamwork and a willingness to learn.
Students have enjoyed preparing for and practising their roles in our café program. As each class has rotated through different responsibilities, they have continued to build valuable workplace skills, including communication, organisation, customer service and teamwork. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they prepare to deliver another successful café service.
Our Travel Training program has also provided students with a range of exciting learning opportunities this term. Students have enjoyed visiting Sydenham Library, DFO South Wharf, the National Gallery of Victoria and Melbourne Central. These community experiences have allowed students to further develop their independence, travel skills, social communication and confidence while exploring a variety of real-world environments.
We look forward to another engaging and successful term as students continue to build their independence and celebrate their achievements.
Senior Secondary (VPC/ASDAN)
During term 1& 2 11/12 B have been doing travel education on a Thursday. First Term we went to different areas of the city to explore. We would usually do some research first, looking up what we were going to see, when it was built, the architects and so on. Our aims were to try out the new train tunnel and stations, to see how accessible our city and public transport system is and to do free stuff, telling the students if they want to see more, they will have to come in on weekends or school holidays.
During Term One we visited different areas of the city; the theatre district, Parliament House, the Old Treasury Building, China Town, The Art Centre and National Gallery, Melbourne Central
During Term Two We have visited the Shrine of Remembrance, Docklands, Sydney Road, Werribee, St. Kilda, Brighton Beach, Altona and Geelong.
Students favourites were our last day at Geelong, nice ride in the V-Line train, short walk to the water Fish & Chips overlooking the water. Altona and the Shrine. Shayla also like Melbourne Central because of the shops.
The ASDAN students have had a great start to the term and have settled into their routines well. As part of their ASDAN outcomes, they have been learning to prepare a simple cold snack. This week, students made a fruit salad with minimal support.
On our off-site days, Sue's class has been working hard at Brunswick Industries. Students have shown a positive attitude, worked well as a team, and continued to build their workplace and independence skills.
