HES Term 3 Activities

Overview 

HES students enjoyed a successful Semester 1, achieving some outstanding results, and have started Semester 2 strongly. As the semester progresses and the end of their studies comes into sight, it is important that students remain focused and work on the completion of their final assessments. 

During the Term 2 holiday break, La Trobe University HES students participated in an immersion day at the Bundoora campus, where they heard from experts within the Law School and gained valuable insight into health and medical sciences through hands-on experiences in teaching laboratories and anatomy facilities.

Federation University HES Biological Sciences students have also benefited from practical learning opportunities, completing their first two laboratory sessions for Semester 2. Their final practical experience is scheduled for the beginning of Term 4, providing a valuable opportunity to consolidate and apply their learning. HES students should be very proud of their achievements and we look forward to celebrating them at our Graduation ceremony later in Term 4.

HES students are reminded that, should they require additional time or experience circumstances that impact their studies, extension and special consideration applications can be submitted directly to their respective university in accordance with university policies and procedures.

• "The Space Industry program at Swinburne University has been an amazing introduction to the aerospace world. Moving beyond just rockets, we’ve learned the foundational basics of the space environment, the history of global space missions, and how satellites power our daily lives. It has been incredibly exciting to get a genuine glimpse into how university works and what tertiary-level classes are actually like. Studying a university subject while in Year 12 can feel a bit daunting at first, but CHES has been a fantastic bridge. They provide amazing support, and it is reassuring to know there are always people we can reach out to and ask for help when we need it. This program is an invaluable head start for anyone curious about STEM and the future space workforce." - Ritkriti M

• "I really enjoy studying HES Law at La Trobe University because it has given me a unique opportunity to experience university life while still completing my VCE. Being exposed to university-level learning has allowed me to develop greater independence, critical thinking and analytical skills, while also giving me an insight into what studying law at university will be like. I find the content very engaging because it explores issues that are relevant to society, such as federalism, the relationship between citizens and government, and the ways in which citizens can engage with and influence the law. I enjoy being able to connect these concepts to real-world issues rather than simply learning theoretical ideas. This experience has challenged me academically and helped me develop skills in legal research, analysis and problem-solving. Most importantly, HES Law has strengthened my interest in pursuing law in the future and has helped prepare me for the rigorous academic demands of a university law degree, which is something I am aiming to undertake next year." - Umang K

• "The Physics HES program at Unimelb has been a really pivotal experience, introducing myself and the class to life on campus in laboratories and lecture rooms, as well as providing access to university resources including library and club access with a student card. The content goes well beyond VCE and introduces more of the meaty and fun concepts in kinematics or more recently in electrostatic forces and the way light behaves, with interactive demos and labs alongside the learning. Additionally the experience of university exams and workload is very insightful for future years, with it being somewhat different to high school in the self directed nature of study. CHES has provided support through greater access to resources and more centralised support in the transition between high-school and university." - James S
