Debaters end the year on a high

Mullauna’s debaters did very well in their final inter-school debates of the year on Wednesday last week (22 July) at Tintern Grammar.

In their last inter-school debate, the A-grade team of Caitlin F, Floyd, Caitlin P, Oliver and Sam did Mullauna proud. They narrowly missed out on the points to Luther College. After an hour-long preparation session with Oliver and Sam, Caitlin F, Caitlin P and Floyd argued against the proposal that Australia should ban those born after 2008 from buying or using tobacco and vape products.

Our B-grade team (Year 11s Ethan, Charlotte, Bella and Jeremy – and Nathan from Year 10) were successful in their battle against Tintern. Ethan, Nathan and Charlotte spoke after an hour-long preparation session with Bella and Jeremy. They argued that it should be compulsory for consumers to pay a ticket levy for major concerts to help local acts. Ethan was named Best Speaker. It was also impressive that Nathan volunteered to step in at the last minute after our C-Grade team forfeited. They were coached by Mr Graham.

Our D-team of Anneliese, Christina, and Michelle were also victorious in their debate against another Tintern team. They successfully argued against the banning of dynamic pricing. Michelle was awarded Best Speaker. Special mention goes to Anneliese (Year 8) for stepping into the debate. Ms Davidson was their coach.
