Exciting News: A New Era of Accessible News in Australia!

For too long, the Deaf community in Australia has faced significant barriers to accessing local and national news. While captions are common for news services in Europe and America, their absence on major Australian news channels’ YouTube content has made it difficult for Deaf Australians to stay updated.

We now have a new development of Auslan90. This is a groundbreaking pilot news program that is designed specifically for the Deaf community. It delivers the day’s top headlines in daily 90-second videos, entirely in Auslan (no captions).

Auslan-First Approach: This service prioritises delivering news in a format that is clear, nuanced, and culturally relevant for Auslan users, created by a Deaf team of translators, content creators and presenters.

Launched in September, this initiative marks a significant step towards media inclusivity and ensures that Deaf Australians can access timely, accurate and trustworthy news in their first language.
