Honouring a great: George Devine Treloar Memorial Statue anniversary

Our newest student leaders have hit the ground running, attending the fifth anniversary of the unveiling of the George Devine Treloar Memorial Statue in Ballarat at the weekend.

In their first public appearance as College leaders, Hugo, Harrison and Brendon were honoured to lay a wreath during the ceremony with our Deputy Principal - Community John Richards.

Mr Richards also addressed those gathered to recognise the work of humanitarian and Old Collegian George Divine Treloar (SPC 1900), who assisted more than 100,000 members of the Pontian Greek community during troubles in the north-east region of Anatolia in the early 1920s.

George is an Old Collegian of our great school, and he embodies many of the values that we aim to instil in our boys: honour, respect, empathy and hopefulness, and a deep value of human life," he said.

"At St Patrick’s, we hold the story of George Devine Treloar as an example to our boys of what is possible if you have sound values and an orientation towards considering others.”

We thank the Merimna Pontion Kyrion of Oceania for the kind invitation to participate in the ceremony.
