As we continue working our way through Term 4, we are constantly looking for ways to demonstrate the best version of ourselves. In our current environment, that is of fast paced, busy and the constant need to be connected, we can sometimes feel overwhelmed and demotivated to strive for success.
Middle School has had a focus on developing skills to cope with being overwhelmed and the societal pressures of being a young adolescent. When we ask students to strive for the best, we mean setting goals and holding oneself to high standards. It is about pushing beyond comfort zones, learning from failures and continuously seeking growth. It is usually not about perfection but understanding that growth is a journey rather than a destination.
Throughout our programs we wish to embrace the notion of a growth mindset - the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, commitment and hard work. So many opportunities are on offer here at St Patrick’s College which we encourage all students to become involved in at least one per term.
Congratulations to both 9J (Mr Hendrickson) and 9B (Mr McKee) who were the recipients of a homeroom lunch due to their outstanding behaviour as a whole homeroom with their commitment to receiving the lowest amount of teacher incidents for the term in Terms 2 and 3. Well done! Both Homeroom teachers were very proud of this achievement and continue to guide students to make good choices in all their classes.
An opportunity to challenge oneself, further build character, build resilience and foster relationships are just some of the objectives from this camp. Information has been sent home to parents and permissions are due early next week. If your son is unsure about whether he should be attending, please feel free to contact his homeroom teacher or the year level coordinators for further support.
Through Rite Journey lessons, curriculum has been based on building the skills to support students whilst away. Some groups have had the opportunity to ‘build tents’ to work on team building and problem-solving skills. The staff attending are looking forward to this camp which will bring a close to the Rite Journey Program for Year 9.
Students from Middle School have received important information regarding the upcoming exam period in November. Please ensure that you discuss ways to assist and support students through their revision period prior to the examinations. These exams not only prepare students to demonstrate their understanding of key concepts and knowledge from their classes, but also a time for students to prepare, organise and seek support from their subject teachers. We wish all our students’ good luck in their upcoming assessments and hope that they achieve what they have set out to achieve.
We want all Middle School to strive for the best - not in pursuit of perfection, but in pursuit of continuous growth, learning and betterment. The rewards will follow, not just in achievement, but in the satisfaction of knowing that everyone gave it their all.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming exam period or camp, please feel free to contact the Middle School Leadership Team.
