On Wednesday this week, we bid farewell to our 2024 Year 12 students, as they prepare for their final examinations and assessments. This is a significant milestone for these students and for the College, as they embark on the next chapter in their journey.
To recognise and celebrate this achievement, on Wednesday night we held a candlelit thanksgiving mass; during the mass, our Year 12 cohort sang a moving rendition of the song “Standing on the Shoulders”. The song is a beautiful, inspiring piece about gratitude, legacy, and the responsibility to carry forward the work of those who came before. It reflects a deep respect for the past and a commitment to contributing to a better future for the next generation.
The recurring imagery of "standing on the shoulders of the ones who came before" emphasises how each individual's success is built on the efforts of previous generations, whether they be family, mentors, or role models. It highlights themes of courage, perseverance, and progress; themes which are, in every sense, attributes our Year 12’s have demonstrated throughout their journey at the College. It also highlights the character strengths they will need as they move into their final examinations.
As a College, we are so proud of the efforts of our Year 12 boys - of the courage and perseverance each of them has shown. We are grateful for all that they have brought to the College, and I would like to wish every Year 12 all the best for their upcoming examinations.
We look forward to hearing about where life takes the class of 2024, and trust that through their time at the College, they leave us with lifelong friendships, strength of character, and readiness to fulfill their dreams.
This week, parents of boys in Years 9-11 received information regarding the Semester 2 examinations, which are being held later this term. The examinations provide students with the opportunity to identify some of their key strengths, along with areas of challenge within their own learning. It also provides teachers with information that allows them to better support students in their learning.
There will also be an examination catch up day on Friday, 22 November for any student who missed exams during the week. On this day, there will be no scheduled classes to allow students to undertake the catch-up exams. Further information about this, along with information about the examination period, will be provided via a PAM notice to families.
This term, current students in Years 10 and 11 will take part in our annual Head Start program. The Head Start period commences on Monday, 25 November and concludes on Friday, 6 December, which is the last day of Semester 2 for current Years 10 and 11 students.
The purpose of the program is to provide students with a ‘Head Start’ in their 2025 VCE learning programs. This means that our Year 10 and 11 students commence work in their 2025 classes early, in the closing weeks of 2024. In undertaking the Head Start program, VCE students obtain a significant advantage in their studies. They have an opportunity to establish relationships with their teachers and peers, as well as maximising learning time, by allowing additional content to be taught ahead of time.
Students currently in Years 7-9 will not take part in Head Start this year, staying on with their current subjects and teachers. Their last day for Semester 2 is Tuesday, 10 December.
If you have any further questions, please reach out to your son’s current Homeroom teacher, Year Level Coordinator, or Head of School.
