Supporting Our Community During Ramadan

As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, Truganina College would like to acknowledge and support members of our college community who will be observing this important time in the Islamic calendar.

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is considered one of the holiest times of the year for Muslims. Many Muslims fast from dawn until sunset during this month as a way of practising self-discipline, gratitude, and compassion for others.

In 2026, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of Wednesday 18 February and conclude on Friday 20 March. During this period, many students fast from dawn until sunset, which includes abstaining from food and water during the school day. We recognise that fasting may impact some students’ energy levels, concentration, and physical stamina.

To support our students during Ramadan, Truganina College will:

  • Provide flexibility in Physical Education and sport, including lower-intensity options where required
  • Monitor student wellbeing with support from our school nurse and First Aid team
  • Maintain a respectful and inclusive learning environment for all students
  • Provide student prayer arrangements

We value the diversity of our community and are committed to ensuring that all students feel supported, respected, and included during this important time. Families are encouraged to contact their child’s home room teacher if they would like to discuss individual support for their child.

If your child will be absent from school due to Ramadan, we kindly ask that you inform their teacher or add a “Religious/Cultural Observance” Attendance Note on Compass.

On behalf of the College, I extend my warm wishes to all students, staff and families observing Ramadan.
