School Council Update

We are pleased to announce the outcome of the recent School Council elections and extend our congratulations to our newly elected parent representative, Anne George and re-elected parent representative, Etty Yefet. We also congratulate Brooke Matthews on her re-election as staff representative and welcome Ben Alexander as our new student representative. The College Council plays a vital role in the governance of the school, shaping its strategic direction and ensuring the best outcomes for all students. We thank all members for their commitment and look forward to working together to support the continued growth and success of our college.

With that in mind, the 2024/25 school council is drawing to a close, and the final meeting of the current council is this month. The objectives of a school council are set out in the school council’s constituting Order and section 2.3.4 of the Education and Training Reform Act and are to:

  • assist in the efficient governance of the school
  • ensure that its decisions affecting students of the school are made having regard, as a primary consideration, to the best interest of the students
  • enhance the educational opportunities of students at the school
  • ensure the school and the council complies with any requirements of the Education and Training Reform Act, the Education and Training Reform Regulations, a Ministerial Order or a direction, guideline or policy issued under the Education and Training Reform Act.

Over the past 12 months, we have been briefed on and discussed:

  • The college Strategic and Annual Implementation Plan and the progress of strategic goals and key improvement strategies.
  • College Health and Safety, including OHS issues
  • Student Wellbeing
  • Engagement and communications
  • Child Safe standards, including completing the school council training sessions
  • College policies
  • External hirers
  • Canteen

Several subcommittees meet regularly to discuss the following areas

  • College buildings and grounds
  • College education policy
  • Student services
  • Finance, including procurement and budgets

We would like to thank the parents, staff and students who have given up their time to be members of the school council and appreciate their input, support and guidance in 2024.
