Miss Deane - Junior Classroom Teacher
Literacy
Our Prep students have been learning to recognise and read the sounds and letters m, d, g, o, c, and f. They have been practising blending these sounds to read and spell simple words such as mid, got, cap, fig, mat, cop, dog, and fin. Our Year 1/2 students have been learning to recognise and read the sound and letter patterns ‘a-e’, ‘ay’, and ‘ai’. They have been practising reading and spelling words such as bake, tray, complain, awake, and Friday.
the 1/2's have also been developing their independence in when exploring suffixes such as past tense -ed and progressive -ing. In addition, they have been learning about compound words, building their understanding of how words can be combined to create new meanings.
Across the junior classroom, students learnt how to identify verbs (doing words) and are beginning to recognise how they are used in sentences.
Maths
In Maths, students have been learning about addition by combining two numbers to find a total. They have been solving addition problems using hands-on materials such as counters, as well as modelling and using number bonds to support their understanding.
Students have also been practising adding numbers by counting on, helping them develop efficient strategies and build confidence when working with numbers.
I hope that everyone has a safe and happy Easter break! - Miss Deane
