Student Achievement

Congratulations to Sonny R in Year 8
Sonny recently returned from the UK where he participated in an ITF Wheelchair Tennis tournament with great results. Sonny was very happy to share with all of Year 8 in assembly what he had been up to and we are so proud of his achievements.
Here is Sonny’s report:
Hi my name is Sonny Rennison and I’m 13 years old and in year 8. I play wheelchair tennis quite competitively as I have a rare disability that affects my hips, ankles and shoulders. Anyway, recently I went to England to play an International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament at a really high level. I was the only Aussie junior player there and the rest of the players were from around Europe. I have been playing wheelchair tennis for about 9 years and this was my first time going to England to play a tournament. I loved every second of it and I’m so grateful and privileged for this amazing opportunity. I played some of the best tennis I have ever played in my entire life while I was over there and that really paid off. First of all I beat two players in the first round of the tournament which was pretty awesome. Then I had to play a kid who is higher ranked than me in the world rankings. We had a very close match and it was so evenly balanced the whole time. But in the end I came out the winner! I was super proud of myself and it was also a massive achievement being able to go to my first ever international final. In the final I played a kid who is number 3 in the world! Unfortunately I couldn't get it done but it was a great experience and I definitely learned from it. After the tournament I sit at number 7th in the world for under 18 junior boys! Super happy with myself and very proud!
