New Year 9 campus at Lonsdale St

An exciting new chapter begins for University High School with the opening of a new campus at 399 Lonsdale St in the CBD. Spread over two floors of an existing education facility, the new campus has general classrooms, multi-purpose practical rooms, recreation space, instrumental music rooms and more. Students have stepped up to the academic challenges of the new program and the new setting away from Parkville.
The Year 9 program has been named after consultation with Wurundjeri Elders and student leaders. The Booeegigat Program reflects the desire to learn new things in creative ways and aligns closely with our school value of curiosity. We are grateful to Auntie Doreen for her support as we undertook the process of seeking a new name. We marked the commencement of our learning at the new site with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at Flagstaff Gardens at the end of February.
Students have started their excursions making the most of their city location with learning experiences at ACMI, the state library, and a guided walking tour of the economic history of the city already highlights.
Each term, a sub-school will go on camp to Gariwerd national park and there will be a report on this in the next newsletter. The camp experience is an integral part of the curriculum and students develop skills and stretch themselves with adventure activities.
Thank you to all of the families who have supported us settling in to the new campus and provided us with valuable feedback. Our open evening for Year 9 families was very popular and it was great to be able to welcome our community into the space. We are looking forward to all that our new campus has to offer.
