Celebrating Faith, Students and Monican Tradition

Over the past fortnight, the St Monica's College community came together to celebrate a truly special milestone as we honoured the Class of 2026. From their first days navigating secondary school to their final moments as Monican students, this beautiful cohort has grown into a group of resilient, compassionate and capable young adults. Graduation Week provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on their journey, celebrate their achievements, and thank them for the lasting contribution they have made to College life.

One of the most anticipated events for students, was the Year 12 Parade. A cherished College tradition, the parade saw students arrive in an array of creative, colourful and often comical costumes, bringing plenty of joy and enthusiasm to the celebrations. Surrounded by fellow students, staff and family members, the Class of 2026 embraced the occasion with excitement and spirit, creating memories that will no doubt be treasured for years to come.

Following the parade, students gathered for a special breakfast prepared by our dedicated Hospitality staff and talented Year 11 VET students. The breakfast offered more than a chance to enjoy a meal together. It was a meaningful opportunity for the cohort to pause, connect and reflect on the friendships, experiences and shared memories that have shaped their years at St Monica's College. The warmth and sense of community evident throughout the morning, perfectly captured the spirit of the occasion.

Later that evening, students, families and staff gathered in the Sports and Assembly Hall for the Graduation Ceremony, a proud and memorable celebration of the Class of 2026. As each graduate crossed the stage to receive their certificate, we recognised not only their academic accomplishments but also the personal growth, perseverance and character they have demonstrated throughout their College journey. A greatly welcomed livestream link allowed for extended family members to observe this significant occasion from home.

We were fortunate to welcome Mr Michael McGirr, Mission Facilitator at Caritas Australia, as our keynote speaker. Reflecting on the College theme of Faith, Mr McGirr delivered an encouraging address that persuaded graduates to step confidently into the future. Mr McGirr reminded students that faith is not simply something we possess, but something we must continue to nurture through service, reflection and openness to life's opportunities and challenges. His words struck a chord with the graduating cohort, affirming that their time at St Monica's has prepared them not only with knowledge and skills, but with the values needed to lead lives of purpose, compassion and integrity.

The ceremony was a fitting tribute to a cohort whose kindness, warmth and positive spirit have enriched every corner of College life. The Class of 2026 leaves behind a gift of friendship, service and leadership that will continue to inspire those who follow.

As we celebrate our graduating students, we also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our College Captains and Vice Captains, Matteo, Sehajta, Luca and Sheriz. Their leadership throughout the year has been marked by dedication, humility and a genuine commitment to ensuring every student felt welcomed, valued and included. They have represented the student body with pride and distinction, leaving a meaningful legacy that will be remembered for years to come.

We also acknowledge the outstanding contribution of the Year 12 Student Representative Council. Once again, the Senior Council has played a significant role in shaping the student experience, promoting school spirit, advocating for their peers and supporting a range of College initiatives. Through their enthusiasm, leadership and service, they have helped nurture a vibrant and connected community that reflects the very best of St Monica's College.

As the Class of 2026 prepares to embark on the next chapter of their lives, we send them forth with much pride and confidence. Whether their paths lead to further study, apprenticeships, the workforce or new adventures beyond the classroom, we know they will carry with them the values, friendships and experiences that have defined their time at St Monica's.

To the Class of 2026, thank you for the energy, talents and spirit you have shared with our community. You have left an enduring mark on our College, and we are incredibly proud of the young people you have become. As you step forward into new opportunities and challenges, may you continue to learn, grow and lead with courage, kindness and above all else, Faith.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. Whilst this chapter of your story may be ending, an exciting new passage is only just beginning.
