Principal News

Dear Marian Catholic College Community,

During Week 2, all Catholic school principals in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga, had the privilege to attend a 2 day retreat at St Clements Retreat and Conference Centre in Galong. Leading this retreat was Dr Dan White, formerly executive director of both Tasmania and Sydney Catholic Education Offices.

Dr Dan White led us through a series of reflections and  workshops on key aspects of Catholic and gospel teaching, particularly on the significance of ‘Encountering Jesus’, including what this may have looked like in 1st century Palestine, and what it can mean to us today. In the words of Dr White:

The challenge, for all parents and educators entrusted with the responsibility of opening a young person’s mind and heart to the beauty and wonders of their faith tradition, is to assist them to interpret the ‘ancient and sacred words’ of Jesus within the context of their modern world”.

It was a reminder to all present of our core business as Catholic Educators. This is to attend to the faith formation and holistic education of our students, in all aspects of their humanity. The mission values of Marian Catholic College and its central motto ‘the way, the truth and the life’ (John 14.6) attest to this as we emphasise living the Marian way by providing an excellent education focusing on Faith, Learning, Care, Service and Stewardship.

Events Acknowledgements

I would like to thank the many students, parents and carers, leaders and staff who have, over the last two weeks and this coming week, represented this community with such pride, generosity, talent and energy in so many ways. These include attendance and participation in Anzac Services on the 23rd and the 25th, through representative sports and arts, including the Athletics Carnival, Senior AFL and NSW Netball, Riverina Da Vinci Decathlon and our wonderful Cabaret premiering this Friday May 7th. A very special thank you to Nadine Johns (Sports and Carnivals) and Matthew Segrave, Lucia Dickie, Katherine Hannon, the Creative and Performing Arts and admin teams and Sophie Bozic for their work on Cabaret this week.

Congratulations to all students, College Captains, Athletes, Events winners, Performers and participants. To the five students making state representative teams for NSW in Netball and in the Southern Country Trials- well done! To all teachers, leaders, coaches, peers and parents of our athletes, performers and writers (Decathlon), thank you for your support, which has enabled and enhanced our students’  success and participation. This newsletter should include many reports and pictures from all of these events for you to enjoy. Later this term, there will be an opportunity to formally acknowledge winners and participants in year level or school ceremonies.

Marian Uniform Provision Changes:

From Friday 1st, Marian’s uniform services are now being managed by NOONE School Uniform, who will operate a campus uniform shop from Marian, as well as an online service to purchase uniforms. We are delighted that Mrs Brenda Carroll will remain as the onsite Campus Uniform Manager, representing both NOONE and the College in this important service. Given both the very warm weather of late and the transition to the new service, our transition to winter uniform has been extended to commence from Week 4 of this term at this point.

We warmly welcome Mr David Asongo to the College and to Griffith. David will be joining the MCC teaching team this week, as a replacement teacher of English.

Sincere regards

Dr Penny Ludicke
