What's Happening In Secondary

DCS Music Department  

The choirs, Vocal Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble at DCS have been busy preparing for an active performance season. Yes, we have formed a jazz ensemble in the secondary school and are currently rehearsing for the DCS EXPO night on July 2nd! Selections for the night include Fly Me to The Moon, Tequila, Megalovania, Enter Sandman and Viva la Vida using piano, bass, drums, percussion, guitar, trumpet, trombone and saxophone played by our very own Mr Watson. They are getting a very exciting sound! 

The Vocal Ensemble has been rehearsing songs from Frozen (Queen Annointed and Into the Unknown) both as a support for the upcoming musical on August 12th - 15th and also in preparation for the Devonport Eisteddfod at the paranaple arts centre on Sept 10th. This 20 member group has also been preparing a new repertoire including Circle of Life and Stand by Me to present at future school functions and in the surrounding area this year. Not stopping there, the Vocal Ensemble has also been invited to perform at the Devonport Jazz Festival on July 23 (the end of school break) as part of the Gospel Music Night at the paranaple arts centre! 

In Primary, the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 choirs are combining to perform for the Creative Arts Expo on June 24th at 3.15pm. They will sing Oh Happy Day from Sister Act and the Fruit Canon as a massed choir to begin the musical portion of the Expo. Following this, there will be individual performances of vocals, instrumentals and small groups to add to the celebration of art.

Year 11 & 12 Leighland Christian School Information Evening

DCS is excited to be partnering with Leighland Christian School to provide information and experiences that will support our Year 10 students as they consider continuing their education into Years 11 and 12.

As part of this partnership, families considering Year 11 and 12 options for 2027 are warmly invited to attend Leighland Christian School’s 2026 Year 11/12 Subject Information Evening on Monday 15th June.

This informative evening is designed to support students and families as they begin planning for 2027. Throughout the night, families will hear from Leighland staff about subjects available at Leighland, the Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE), and ATAR pathways. Following the welcome session, the evening will operate in an open-house format, allowing families the opportunity to move freely between subject displays, meet teachers from all learning areas, ask questions, and reflect on their interests, strengths, and goals for the years ahead. The evening will also allow families to gain a clearer understanding of course content, expectations, and future pathways at Leighland.

A tour of the Leighland Christian School will also be available to new families on the night.
