Celebrating Student & Staff Achievements

Stella Elliot - Kokoda Trek Complete

Huge congratulations to Year 11 student, Stella Elliot who successfully completed the Kokoda Trail during the school holidays!

Stella is enormously grateful for the opportunity and on her return said it was the most incredible experience ever!

Despite it also being very challenging, both mentally and physically, Stella said the scenery was spectacular and she met a lot of great people along the way that helped get her through, including the local porters and other members of the group who she now calls her 'friends for life'. She also noted how different the way of life is for local people in Papua New Guinea compared to ours, in terms of them having less, but yet they are still happy and grateful for what they've got.

A particular memorable moment for Stella was when they visited the Bomana war cemetery at the completion of the trek to honour the soldiers in the area who lost their lives.

"We each had a soldier whose footsteps we followed on the track, mine was Bruce McDonald from Gunbower who died from illness on Christmas Day 1942," she said.

"A lot of the soldiers who lost their lives over there were a similar age to what I am now, which is pretty scary and emotional to think about."

She strongly encourages anyone who has the opportunity to do it too.
