Campaspe Junior and Intermediate Girls Football
On Friday 27 June, an incredible 80 girls from Years 7–10 represented St Joseph’s College at the Campaspe Junior and Intermediate Girls Football competition in Nathalia.
The Year 7 and 8 girls had a great day on the footy field with the sun shining, winning all 4 out 5 games.
The A team won all of their games in dominant fashion. Their defence was solid, keeping their opponents scoreless in all 3 games and progressing through to the next stage. Major goal kickers for the day were Bella Russell and Ava Braybon.
Best players for the day were Milla Ryan, Jada Dennis, Michala Keele, Evie Clarke and Sadie Jones.
The B team won their 1st game against St Augs with a 2 goal win. They fought hard against a tough SMOTA team but unfortunately couldn't come away with the win after a few injuries. Best players for the day were Tamara Brennan, Evelynn McCartney, Ayla Louttit-Lee and Angela Hession.
Year 9
The A team had two strong wins, beating Echuca 44 - 8 and SMOTA 36 - 6 advancing to a hard contested final against Rochester and scraping through with the win 21 - 15. All players had a great day with Kate, Chloe, Lily, Zoe, Addi and Macey strong throughout, taking crucial marks and laying great tackles. Everyone played their role, celebrated each others successes and had a great day. We had multiple goal scorers including Kenzie who kicked 5 and Addi kicking 2.
The B team had a tough game first against Rochester who were able to use the ball very well and link up. The second game against St Aug's was a convincing win, played in great spirit and determination by the girls. Stand out players were skipper Leni, as well as Lacey, Summer, Holly and Hannah.
Huge shout out also goes to our coaches and support staff - Ms Irvine, Mr Jurey, Mrs Bourke, Mr Carnie, Mrs Orton, Beth Morris and Sage Dennis.
Girls footy is well and truly alive at St Joes! We’re so proud of every player for their teamwork, sportsmanship and love for the game.
LMR Junior and Intermediate Boys Netball
Last week our Junior and Intermediate Boys Netball teams headed to Kyabram to compete in the LMR Netball competition.
Junior Boys
The Junior Boys team put in a spirited performance in a tightly contested match against Catherine McAuley College.
The game remained close throughout, with both sides trading goals and momentum swings.
Despite their relentless effort, the boys fell just short in the final quarter.
Billy Q was a livewire across the court, bringing energy and intensity that lifted his teammates at crucial moments.
In defence, Aarav B stood tall, consistently disrupting CMC’s attacking plays and showing outstanding anticipation and pressure.
While the result didn’t go their way, the boys demonstrated great teamwork, grit and promise for future games.
Intermediate Boys
The Year 9/10 boys had an action-packed day, taking to the court for two games filled with excitement and intensity.
In their first match against St Joseph’s College Mildura, the team mounted an incredible comeback after trailing in the first half.
With persistence and sharp ball movement, they turned the game around to claim a thrilling victory.
Xave proved to be a key swingman, making a strong impact both in attack and defence, adjusting to the game’s needs with composure and skill.
Keoni was unstoppable in the attacking third, driving hard and creating scoring opportunities with confidence and flair.
In their second game, the boys faced off once again against CMC in a fast-paced and physical contest.
Despite another strong showing, they couldn’t quite match CMC’s momentum.
Overall, the Intermediate team displayed resilience, teamwork and a never-give-up attitude that should make them proud.
Well done to both teams on representing the school with pride and determination!

LMR Year 8 Boys Soccer
Last week our Year 8 Boys Soccer team participated in the LMR tournament.
The team showed strong spirit and teamwork across four competitive matches.
In the first game, they lost 2–0 to Catherine McAuley College in a closely contested match demonstrating little difference between the two sides.
They bounced back impressively in the second game with a dominant 9 - 1 win over Chaffey, featuring six different goal scorers and a standout hat-trick from Reeve S.
The third game was another tight battle, with a narrow 1–0 loss to Eaglehawk.
In the final game, the boys went down 2–1 to St Mary’s Robinvale in yet another closely fought contest.
Despite the cold, wind and heavy rain throughout the day, the team showed exceptional commitment, enthusiasm and resilience.
They played as a united group and represented the school with pride, acting as excellent ambassadors both on and off the field.
Well done boys!

Junior Girls LMR Soccer
Our junior girls braved the icy cold, wind and rain to compete at the LMR Soccer competition in Moama last week!
Year 7 Team:
Our Year 7s gave it their all in a tough match against BSE. While the win slipped away, their defensive pressure was outstanding, making it difficult for the opposition to break through. The girls played with heart and determination and should be extremely proud of their performance.
Year 8 Team:
Facing two strong state-level teams, our Year 8s held their own with courage and persistence. A standout performance by Ava B in goal kept us in the game with some phenomenal saves, and Milla P found the back of the net with a well-earned goal. The team showed fantastic resilience and worked hard for each other all day long.
A big congratulations to all players for their effort, teamwork and positive attitude.
LMR Intermediate Girls and Boys Football
It was tough wintery conditions for our Intermediate Girls and Boys football teams at the LMR competition in Swan Hill last week - but that didn’t stop them!
Intermediate Girls
After a late withdrawal from their first opponents, the girls team faced a long wait before hitting the field against Marist with only one on the bench due to injuries and illness.
The girls put in a gutsy performance, fighting hard and running all day.
Final score: 5.4.34 to 1.0.6.
Shoutout to Kate for rucking all game, Bella for kicking our only goal and Kenzie and Addi for their relentless attack on the ball.
Intermediate Boys
In Game 1 against CMC, the boys found themselves in a scrap early, before wearing the opposition down to claim a 40 - 8 win.
They built momentum in Game 2, outclassing Mildura’s St Joseph’s 42 - 4 with smart ball use and slick teamwork.
After a short break, they were challenged by a fired-up McKillop College side who managed one of only two goals scored against our boys all day - narrowly taking the win 6 - 5 in a tight contest.
Undeterred, St Joes boys bounced back in dominant fashion to finish the day with an 88–0 victory over Maryborough.
Standout performances came from Patrick K, Link R, Taj F, Liam B, Hugo M and Campbell M.
LMR Year Junior Boys and Girls Football
Year 7 Boys
After travelling to Swan Hill the boys got warmed up to play CMC. There was only one game consisting of 2 x 18 minute halves to qualify for the next stage. CMC Bendigo were going to be a very strong opposition and the boys knew it was going to take our best to win.
Tom Arthurson won the toss and chose to kick with what was a considerable breeze. Our first 5 minutes of football was very reactive. Our players were getting caught out of position and CMC were setting up well around the contest. To the boys credit they got back on top and started to get some momentum with forward entries. Xander Eldridge was in and under in the midfield helping us get first use of the footy and Tom Arthurson was helping carry the ball forward with pace and fine skill execution. Our first goal came from Luca Micalizzi who marked 20 meters out. Angus Henderson began to get his hands on the ball in the midfield with some clearances, leading to consecutive goals from Harry Dunham who was cleaning up around each contest. Half time scores were 3.1 to 2 behinds.
The second half started with repeat stoppages which was what St Joes needed to do to stop CMC's advantage with the breeze. Unfortunately, CMC's persistence paid off and they hit the scoreboard on a few occasions to run away 9 point winners.
Final score: St Joes 3.1 (19) to CMC 4.4.(28) Better players for St Joes: Xander Eldridge, Angus Henderson, Tom Arthurson, Harry Dunham.
Year 8 Boys
Our Year 8 Boys played thier first game against CMC in windy conditions were ineffective with the wind and CMC kicked a goal to even it up at half time. CMC ran away with a 7pt win.
Second game they played Mildura and the boys played some terrific team football to gain a strong lead with the wind and kicked away to a 5 goal win.
In the third game we played Swan Hill where our midfield were fantastic and another team performance secured a win by 3 goals.
Our last game of 3 back to back we pulled through against St Marys Robinvale with a 3 goal win.
Best players for the day were Taj Maddox, Oakleigh Luke, Beau Griffiths, Levi Weeks, Kai Rankins, Mason Rettalick and Angus Clyne.
Year 7 & 8 Girls
The girls’ footy team had a solid day on the field, winning one game and narrowly losing the other. In their first game, the team worked well together to put in a great effort, but despite their hard work and persistence, they fell just short on the scoreboard. In their second match, the team worked well together, showing great teamwork and determination to come away with a strong win. Overall, it was a positive performance, and the team should be proud of their efforts and improvement across both games.
Umpires
Huge thank you to Blade Watson, Jake Coghlan, Liam Beasley and Eden Thompson who umpired at the Primary School Girls football competition earlier this week.
