Basketball – Division

Year 7 Girls – def Kurunjang 18-4, def Gisborne 22-6 then played Sunbury in the final defeating them 15-13 in a very close one. This enabled us to qualify for the Region finals.

Year 7 Boys – lost all three games – to Sunbury Downs 16-24, to Sunbury 23-35 and to Staughton 22-27

Basketball – Western Region

Year 7 Girls – def Footscray High 26-11, def Victoria University High 31-17 then met a very strong Geelong Sports Academy school and pool favourite, Western Heights. We gave them a head start after we started very slowly and it looked like we were going to be blown away. But a timely time out followed by some excellent coaching and advice from Year 10 student coach, Madelaine Rego, inspired the girls to go on a scoring rampage to go to a strong lead. The effort took its toll and Western Heights were all over us in the last 90 sec but we held on to win by 2 pts, 31-29, upsetting a very confident opposition. The Region final against Strathmore, who had beaten Maribyrnong, was hard as we had nothing left in the tank and they had a very good team winning 41-18. Well done girls, you should be very proud.

Volleyball – Division

Year 7 Girls – won all our pool games def Heathdale, Sunbury and Bacchus Marsh. We met Kurunjang in the final losing 18/20, 11/20. However a post game appeal saw Kurunjang disqualified for playing a Year 9 girl in the Year 7 team. The disqualification saw our girls promoted to the Region final.

Year 7 Boys – def Heathdale, Kurunjang and Staughton in pretty close pool games. In the Division final, we lost the 1st set but came good winning the final against Sunbury Downs 8/20,20/13, 11/2 to qualify for the Region final.

Year 8 Boys – def Heathdale and Alice Miller but lost to Sunbury and Gisborne to pool place 3rd.

Year 8 Girls – had a good day defeating Sunbury, Alice Miller, Gisborne and Bacchus Marsh to win the pool. We came up against Staughton in the Division final who were too consistent winning 21/12, 21/15.

Volleyball - Western Region Finals

Year 7 Girls – In the pool round we def Altona 20/6, 20/16, the drew with Vic Uni 20/22, 18/14 (time ran out so win one set each), then def Siruis 20/4, 20/12. The Region final saw us up against The Grange. The game was very close with both sides rotating the lead. We looked gone in both sets as the set end approached but both times the girls held out and kept the ball in play and the opposition stumbled. We won 21/19, 20/16. Off to the State final in Dandenong now. This current group of Yr 7’s, especially the girls are very exciting for the future of our sports program.

Year 7 Boys – very close all games and could have won through to the Region final but we just lacked consistency and a bit of control at key points. We def Rosehill20/15, 20/6, but lost close games to Laverton 16/20, 19/21 and to Gilson 17/20, 18/20.

Athletics – Western Region

The initial Region carnival was washed out so the spare day came in handy as it was a reasonably nice day. Competition at this level is always good with a number of very strong athletics schools. We had three students medal – Precious Dawo - 3rd girls 13 years 100m; Joseph Tufuga - 3rd boys 17ys javelin and 3rd in 17 years discus; Susana Ah Ching 3rd girls 17 years javelin. The majority of the rest of our competing athletes came in 4th or 5th which were terrific results. Noone qualified for the State final this year.
