Welcome to the Ballarat High School Sports Corner for results of school events, School Sport Victoria (SSV) events, BAS After School events and significant external sporting achievements from present and past students.

 

Ballarat High School Cross Country

On Monday 4th May Ballarat High held our cross country carnival on the school grounds and Princes of Wales Park.  Well done to all those who were involved and managed to complete their 3km or 5km legs of the course.

School Sport Victoria (SSV) Events

 

SSV State Swimming Championships

On Thursday 23rd April BHS had 6 students qualify for the SSV State Swimming Championship held at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre.  It was a solid day out for the BHS team who finished in 17th place out of 31 competing schools!  BHS Swimming Captain Claire Mathison had an amazing day out claiming 5 medals from the 5 events she competed in.

SSV Eureka Track & Field Carnival

On Tuesday 28th April BHS took over 120 students to the SSV Eureka Division Track & Field Carnival at Llanberris Reserve.  The competition provides plenty of opportunities for students to compete in both running and field events.  The school had a fantastic day out taking the overall win with 1496 points, 731 points ahead of Phoenix College who finished in second place.  It’s the 17th straight year that BHS has won this competition.

 

The school also had the following students win age group champion:

  • Max Austin (Year 7), 12-13 Years Boys
  • Ruby Graco (Year 9), 15 Years Girls
  • Evan Kincaid (Year 11), 17 Years Boys

 

60 students and 11 relay teams have also qualified through to the SSV Greater Western Region Track and Field Championships on Thursday 8th October at Llanberris Reserve, Ballarat.

SSV Eureka Cross Country Carnival

On Friday 8th May BHS hosted the SSV Eureka Cross Country on the school grounds and Prince of Wales Park. The weather gods certainly were upset though with rain pretty much falling all day to really dampen the occasion.   

 

The SSV Eureka Primary Cross Country event was held in the morning where the BHS Year 9 Specialist Sport class helped run the competition. Primary co ordinator Claire Morris, was full of praise for the help our students provided on the day.  

 

In the afternoon the Secondary Schools got the chance to take to the course. The Ballarat High School students produced amazing results with 48 students finishing in the top 15 of their age group to qualify for the SSV Greater Western Region Cross Country in Warrnambool on Tuesday 26th May.  BHS also won 6 out the 10 age group team results (3 highest placed runners).

Claire Mathison (Year 12) & Logan Brundell (Year 8) – National Swimming Championships

Congratulations to Claire and Logan who both competed at the 2026 Australian Age Swimming Championships at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Queensland.  An amazing effort to qualify for the national championships amongst Australia’s best junior swimmers. A great experience no doubt for both students.

The cherry on top of a great campaign for Claire was the news that she has qualified for the Commonwealth Games Swimming Trials at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre from Sunday 7th June to Saturday 13th June.

Lena Wiltshire (Year 10) – National U/18 Basketball Championships

Well done to Lena  who was part of the U/18 Girls Victoria Country team who travelled to Queensland for the Foot Locker National U/18 Basketball Championships.  The Vic Country teamed finished the competition in 5th place with Lena enjoying plenty of court time and providing many contributions throughout the campaign. 

 

Yuvraj Miterani Year 9 – State Championships Lawn Bowls

Congratulations to Yuvraj who attended the U/18 State Lawn Bowls Championships at the Sunbury Bowls Club from Tuesday 7th April to Sunday 12th April.  Yuvraj was part of many different events over the extended weekend but the highlight was coming runners up in the Grand Final of Boys Pairs to finish 2nd in the state with his fellow Ballarat Gold Diggers team mate, Connor O'Halloran!
