Upcoming excursions

Across the term, we have each learning community going out on excursions. Excursions are an important part of the learning journey because they bring classroom learning to life through real world experiences. They help students deepen their understanding by making connections between what they learn at school and the world around them.

Prep - Werribee Zoo

This term, the Year Preps are learning about our world, in particular, living things (plants and animals). The intention for the unit is to understand that living things have different features. Next week, they will be going to the Werribee Zoo to participate in a self-guided tour of the zoo. It will provide the students with the opportunity to observe a wide variety of animals in environments that closely resemble their natural habitats. This helps deepen their understanding of how living things depend on specific conditions, such as food, shelter and climate, to survive.

Year 1 and 2 - Scienceworks

The Year 1 and 2 Learning Community is also focusing on our world this term through the unit How are we all scientists? They are learning to understand how science affects our everyday lives, and how to investigate and represent scientific ideas using observations, scientific language, and simple tests. They will be travelling to Scienceworks in the coming weeks. As they are learning about Earth and Space with a focus on the weather and the Earth, moon, stars and Sun, they will visit the Planetarium and take part in a workshop.

Year 3 and 4 - Scienceworks

Also with a focus on our world, the Year 3 and 4 community will extend their learning with a visit to Scienceworks. Their unit is called Matter Matters: How Things Change, Move and Interact!  And it aims to answer the question how do different types of matter behave and change when forces and heat act on them? While at Scienceworks, they will tour the complex but also take part in a workshop to deepen their understanding of matter.

Year 5 and 6 - Victorian Space Science Education Centre

The Victorian Space Science Education Centre engages and inspires students in scientific learning and literacy. It encourages them to participate actively in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. While at the centre, our students will participate in an all day program about an expedition to Mars. This will deepen their knowledge about our Solar System which is the focus of their learning this term.

Lots of fun learning is ahead for our communities. They will build on this learning in class after the excursions and share it all at our Learning Expo at the end of the term.
