What's On In Foundation

TERM 2 OVERVIEW
After the school holidays, the Foundation students have returned to school feeling well rested and ready to learn. They are familiar with daily routines and are approaching their learning with enthusiasm and growing confidence as they continue to settle back into school.
MATHS
In Mathematics, students will continue developing their early number skills through hands-on activities, including counting forwards and backwards and matching numbers to words and objects up to 10. They will use everyday language to describe position and order and learn to compare how heavy objects are by holding and weighing them in their hands. Students will also explore time, such as days of the week and daily routines, and collect and sort data to create simple charts.
ENGLISH
In English, Foundation students will continue to build early reading and writing skills in a fun, supportive way. Through shared reading, they will learn how books and print work and practise simple comprehension skills like making connections, visualising, and predicting. Students will keep developing their knowledge of letters and sounds through phonics and spelling, practise correct letter formation, and begin writing simple sentences to match their drawings. They will also explore stories and start creating their own, while building confidence in speaking, listening, and sharing ideas.
INTEGRATED STUDIES
This term, our Integrated Studies unit is called ‘Family and Community Celebrations’. We will explore how families and communities mark special events and the meanings behind them. Through a range of cultural, community, and family traditions, students learn the importance of celebrations and how they help strengthen relationships.
WELLBEING
This term in Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR), students will learn about positive coping and problem solving. They will talk about different problems, think of ways to solve them, and learn words to describe their feelings. Students will also explore how to recognise and manage strong or uncomfortable emotions, practise calming strategies, and understand that problems are a normal part of life.
We will continue exploring the units in the Cyber Safety project. Students will learn to notice feelings that help them tell if something is safe or unsafe online, and how to make safe choices when using technology. They will also learn how following rules and being responsible helps keep everyone safe, both online and in everyday life.
