Grade 6

Term 2 is now well underway, and our Grade 6 students are continuing to take on new challenges and opportunities for learning. With an exciting and busy term ahead, we look forward to seeing them develop academically, socially, and in their roles as leaders within the school community.

In English, students are developing their skills through note-taking, researching, and creating non-fiction texts such as information reports. They are learning how to locate and organise relevant information, write in a clear and structured way, and use appropriate factual language and text features. We look forward to seeing the informative and well-presented pieces they produce.

In Maths, students are exploring fractions, decimals, and percentages, with a focus on understanding the connections between them. Students have also been linking their learning to chance and probability, using fractions, decimals, and percentages to describe and interpret the likelihood of events occurring.

Our Integrated Studies topic this term is ‘Change’. Students are exploring the impact that the colonisation of Australia had on our First Nations peoples and the difficulties experienced by settlers who migrated from other parts of the world. They are learning about the factors that have driven people to migrate to Australia over a long period of time. This unit encourages students to develop empathy and understanding, recognising the experiences of diverse groups, and reflecting on how change has shaped Australia’s history and identity.

This term, our Grade 6 students have also been involved in the Winter Interschool Sports. Sports include football, kickball, soccer, T-ball, and netball. These sports allow students to develop new skills, work as a team, and enjoy some friendly competition with other schools. Other exciting events and activities for Grade 6 students during Term 2 include the House Cross Country, our Mother’s Day Morning and swimming lessons .

With plenty of exciting learning experiences and opportunities ahead, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
