LaTrobe Uni excursion Year 7

Back in 2025, Latrobe University approached Glenroy College as part of their Educational Partnerships program and invited our Year 7 cohort onto campus. The program is an equity and education-centred program which forms meaningful partnerships with schools and community groups and develops tailored programs of outreach designed to meet the needs of each cohort. It aims to familiarise participants of diverse backgrounds with higher education; inform their aspirations to access and participate in higher education and build their confidence to achieve through academic and study discipline immersion.
This partnership opportunity was extended into 2026 and recently our Year 7 students visited Latrobe University in Bundoora where they participated in a full day of engaging and interactive experiences.
The workshops have 3 aims –
- University- style learning
- Pathways knowledge
- University Culture
The students engaged in activities such as Campus Bingo, Archeology, What’s in shampoo?, Unibuddies and Sports Centre tour.
The students were split into 3 groups and got to participate in 3 workshops across the day.
The students approached these workshops with enthusiasm and interest and fully engaged in all the activities. The most pleasing aspect of the day was how well they represented Glenroy College.
With this being such a success, we hope that this partnership can continue into the future and that students begin to understand the opportunities available to them in a tertiary environment and in the future in general. We are hoping this has opened their eyes to the possibilities and gives them the confidence to tackle their school education with purpose and direction.
We are planning to build on this positive experience and look at other complementary activities for our students.
